DAVENPORT, Fla.- The Gordon College baseball team absorbed a narrow 12-11 loss to Penn State-Abington Friday evening in its first game at the RussMatt Invitational.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Gordon plated three runs in the top of the second to construct a 3-0 lead.
- Penn State-Abington tallied a run in the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.
- The Fighting Scots produced a pair of runs to push their advantage to 5-1 in the fourth inning.
- The Nittany Lions answered with one run in the bottom of the frame to trim the gap to 5-2.
- Gordon manufactured three runs in the top half of the sixth and tacked on a run in the seventh to stretch the margin to 9-2.
- Penn State-Abington chalked up five runs in the home half of the seventh inning to narrow the deficit to 9-7.
- The Fighting Scots added a pair of runs in the eighth to claim an 11-7 lead.
- The Nittany Lions rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning to score five runs and seize a 12-11 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- CJ Massella (Blue Bell, Pa.) posted three RBIs, two hits, and one run scored.
- James Coats (East Northport, N.Y.) tallied two base knocks, two RBIs, and a run scored.
- Adam Gracie (Swansea, Mass.) finished with two hits, one RBI, and one run scored.
- Aaron Ferreira (Fall River, Mass.) added three runs and a base hit.
- Caleb Stuart (Chelmsford, Mass.) hurled 3.1 innings and fanned five while surrendering one hit in his second-straight start. Brett Moore (Gloucester, Mass.) threw three innings of relief and recorded four strikeouts. Michael Pelletier (Clinton, Conn.), Casey Watson (Chester, N.H.), and Kevin Whalen (Lynn, Mass.) also made appearances out of the bullpen.
