Baseball Defeated by Roger Williams in CNE Doubleheader

WENHAM, Mass.-  The Gordon College baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks to Roger Williams Saturday afternoon at J. Tec White Field, falling 8-6 and 11-6.
 

GAME ONE
THE BASICS:
Score: Gordon 6, Roger Williams 8
Records: Fighting Scots (8-17, 2-6 CNE) | Hawks (10-12, 3-5 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Gordon grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.
  • Roger Williams responded with five runs in the top of the third to capture a 5-2 advantage.
  • The Fighting Scots produced one run in the home half of the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.
  • The Hawks added a run in the fourth to reclaim a three-run edge, 6-3.
  • Gordon answered with one run in the bottom of the frame to trim the gap to 6-4.
  • Roger Williams tacked on one run in the top of the fifth inning to push its lead to 7-4.
  • The hosts scored one run in the seventh to narrow the margin to 7-5.
  • The Hawks plated one run to take an 8-5 lead in the eighth inning.
  • Gordon manufactured a run in the bottom of the ninth before Roger Williams secured an 8-6 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • CJ Massella (Blue Bell, Pa.) notched two hits, two stolen bases, and one run scored.
  • Tyler Wilson (Lynn, Mass.) posted three runs scored, one base knock, and a stolen base.
  • Blake King (Easton, Maine) finished with two RBIs, one hit, and one run scored.
  • Cael Smith (Junction City, Kan.) added a pair of RBIs.
  • Kevin Whalen (Lynn, Mass.) tossed four innings in his team-leading sixth start and recorded two strikeouts. Hunter Simpson (Prospect, Conn.) threw three innings of relief before Michael Pelletier (Clinton, Conn.) and Casey Watson (Chester, N.H.) each worked one frame.

  • Gordon captured a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Carter Shin (Burlington, Ont.) and Cam Wilbur (Dighton, Mass.) both belted solo home runs.
  • Roger Williams scored twice in the top of the second to knot the contest at 2-2.
  • The Fighting Scots plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to regain a two-run edge, 4-2.
  • The Hawks generated two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.
  • Gordon chalked up two run in the home half of the fourth to control a 6-4 lead.
  • Roger Williams picked up a run in the fifth to slash the deficit to 6-5.
  • The visitors produced three runs in the sixth inning on a three-run homer to claim an 8-6 advantage.
  • The Hawks tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth to widen the margin to 11-6.
