Women’s Soccer Drops Season-Opener at Nationally-Ranked MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Gordon College women's soccer team kicked off the 2026 campaign with a 5-0 loss at nationally-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The Engineers began the season ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams battled to a scoreless opening half with MIT owning an 8-1 advantage in shots.
  • The Engineers opened the scoring in the 66th minute to snag a 1-0 edge.
  • MIT doubled its advantage to 2-0 with a strike in the 69th minute.
  • The home side tacked on a goal in the 81st minute to widen the margin to 3-0.
  • MIT added a goal in the 85th minute before concluding the scoring in the 86th minute.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Eowyn Lapp (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) paced Gordon with two shots while Liana Hanley (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in with one shot attempt.
  • Goalkeeper Ivy Daniel (Anthem, Ariz.) posted eight saves.
  • The Fighting Scots finished with three shots while the Engineers manufactured 23 attempts.
 
UP NEXT:
Gordon will play in the Keene State Invitational September 5-6, squaring off against nationally-ranked Rochester before battling the host Owls the following day.
