Nick Thompson

Nick Thompson joined the Gordon Men's Soccer staff in the summer of 2012 after serving on staff as the volunteer assistant at the Naval Academy in the spring of 2012 and North Carolina State in the fall of 2011.

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Thompson played professionally in the North American Soccer League (NASL) with the Carolina Railhawks under the tutelage of Martin Rennie, who is now the head coach of the Vancouver Whitecaps (MLS).

A graduate of Messiah College, Thompson was a four-year letterman in the Falcons' program, enjoying an illustrious career that included three NCAA National Championships (2009, 2010, 2011) and numerous individual accolades including 2010 Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and 2010 NSCAA Second Team All-American. He entered the Falcon record books with 54 career goals and 18 assists.

Beyond soccer, Thompson engaged in ministry with Ambassadors in Sport Camps for several summers and worked in outreach programs with local Somalian kids.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Thompson enjoyed a stellar high school career at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy.

Said Head Coach Johnny Whallon, “I am thrilled to have Nick on board here at Gordon and on the men’s soccer coaching staff. He comes highly recommended to me and I have been immediately impressed by his professionalism and attention to aesthetics and details. He firmly believes in our program motto, 'My Life for Yours,' and will enhance our reputation on a regional and national level. Nick will be a huge part of our program’s success this fall and beyond.”
