The Gordon College Athletic Department and Athletic Director Jonathan Tymann are pleased to welcome Max Ruhl as the next head women's lacrosse coach.
"I am thrilled to have Max join our Fighting Scots family," said Tymann. "Ruhl is an extremely driven individual who brings a wealth of knowledge in lacrosse and a deep desire to mentor our young women in what it means to play for Christ. He inherits a solid group of motivated returners along with a number of key recruits, and I am excited to see how he grows the program in the years to come."
Ruhl comes to Gordon after serving since 2015 as the inaugural women's lacrosse head coach at his alma mater, NCAA DII Ohio Valley University (OVU). Ruhl's 2019 squad led the league in draw controls per game with 15.80, housed the conference leader in caused turnovers, ground balls, and draw controls per game, and boasted a trio of players listed in the top 10 in goals per game, all of which resulted in a pair of all-conference honorees. Coming off the most successful season in school history, Ruhl was honored as OVU's 2018-19 Athletics Coach of the Year.
During his time at OVU, Ruhl also served as the director of sports management from 2017-2019, prior to which he was an adjunct professor in the University's College of Education.
As an undergrad, Ruhl was a member of OVU's first-ever men's lacrosse team while earning a degree in wellness and health sciences in 2011. He began his coaching career at Ohio University as an assistant with the Division I club men's lacrosse team where he obtained his master's of recreation and sport science degree in 2012. Following his stint at OVU, he served for one year as a graduate assistant strength coach at Frostburg State University.
"I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the women's lacrosse program at Gordon College," said Ruhl. "It's truly a blessing from God. I look forward to working with these young women as we develop our new culture, one that is faith-based and emphasizes a big work ethic, integrity, and family. There's already a good foundation in place, so I'm excited to see what we accomplish together this coming year."
