Alyssa Maryanopolis

As announced by Gordon College Director of Athletics Jason Linders today, Alyssa Maryanopolis has been selected to become the next head coach of the field hockey program.

"I am thrilled to announce that I have been appointed as the Head Field Hockey Coach at Gordon," said Maryanopolis. "I extend my gratitude to President Hammond, Director of Athletics Jason Linders, and Dr. Welty Peachey for their support and belief in my vision for the program. I am eager to lead and inspire my athletes as we strive for excellence on and off the field."

Maryanopolis comes to Wenham after completing her collegiate playing career at NCAA DI powerhouse Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Flames sported a DI top five National ranking during her career. In 2022 and 2023, Liberty finished in the NCAA DI Round of 16 and then in 2021, the Flames had a historic year as the National Champion Runners-Up. Additionally, the Flames took home the Big East Tournament Title in 2022 and 2021 and also secured the Big East Regular Season Title in 2021 and 2023.

On a team where Liberty boasted an overall record of 62-7 (30-3 in conference play), Maryanopolis served the squad on the Team Leadership Committee (TLC) from 2021-2024 where the appointed student-athletes were integral leaders on the team who handled conflict management and practice planning. Maryanopolis also led bible studies for her teammates and was a volunteer for Liberty Athletics, participating in events to support the local community. Maryanopolis was named the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) where she executed meetings to inform her fellow members of new legislation set forth by the NCAA and planned service projects and events to reach underprivileged members of the community. Then, in August of 2023, Maryanopolis was elected as the Vice Chair of Conference USA where she oversaw 11 University SAACs, conducted a community service project and organized over 3,500 student-athletes, and attended athletic director meetings regularly, giving student-athletes a voice in legislation.

Most recently, Maryanopolis attended the NCAA Leadership Conference in Bethesda, Maryland before graduating in May with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University.

"We are grateful and excited to welcome Alyssa into the Fighting Scots' family," said Linders. "Alyssa's passion not only to grow a competitive field hockey program, but to mentor our student-athletes in their faith on and off the field made her the ideal candidate for this position. Her time playing at the highest level, winning championships, and post season experience will lay the foundation as we continue to grow our culture of continuous improvement. We cannot be more thrilled for our Field Hockey program with Alyssa at the helm."
