As announced today by the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), freshman Naomi Shearer (Hampden, Maine) has been named the CCC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for her contributions to the Scots' offense in their opening weekend of play.

Starting in the center midfield in Saturday's matchup with non-conference University of Southern Maine, Shearer booked two goals and one assist in Gordon's dominant 6-0 win over the visiting Huskies. After assisting on what turned out to be the game-winner from Lauren Hayes (Jr./Wantage, N.J.) in the fourth minute, she went on to record her goals in the sixth and 57^th minutes to help secure the shutout victory.

Said Head Coach Marc Whitehouse of Shearer's effort, "Naomi has shown well all throughout preseason and been incredibly hard-working on the field. That hard work paid off on Saturday. Not only did she contribute points to the board, but she created opportunities for her teammates and helped control and settle our midfield. We're excited for more good things from her this season."

The Scots, who are 1-1 overall on the season, will be on the road for more non-conference action as they take on WPI on Wednesday, September 3 and Emerson on Saturday, September 6.
