Sybil Coleman has been a staple of the Gordon Athletics community for over 50 years in a variety of different roles. A three-sport athlete at Gordon in the early 1960's, Coleman went on to become a coach of four different sports at the college as well as serving in the role of Director of Women's Athletics from 1964-66. As a professor in the social work department, Coleman has been one of the most avid athletic supporters among the Gordon faculty and can often be spotted at volleyball and basketball games.

Coleman began her Gordon tenure as a four-year member of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams at the varsity level. She also competed in the club sport of bowling, winning league titles to bookend her time in school. As a member of the volleyball team, Gordon won league championships in two of her four seasons in the falls of '62 and '63. The women's basketball program has had success during Coleman's time in Wenham, a team she captained for her junior and senior years. The Fighting Scots went 10-0 in 1963, their best mark in school history.

She coached four varsity sports following her time as an undergrad including volleyball, basketball, softball, and field hockey. In 1965-66, Coleman was in charge of Gordon's mixed volleyball team which took home a league title over the likes of Harvard.

Aside from her teaching duties in social work, Coleman has also taught archery and badminton in Gordon's physical education department.
