Scots Drop 3-1 CCC Battle To UNE

Box Score
In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action tonight at Gordon's Bennett Athletic Center, the Fighting Scots battled the visiting Nor'easters of the University of New England but in the end came out on the short side of the 3-1 final to move to 9-7 overall, 1-4 in the CCC on the season. With the win UNE improves to 8-5 overall, 3-2 in league play.

The Scots found themselves at an early deficit after the Nor'easters opened the night with a 25-19 win the first set and followed that up with a hard-fought 30-28 win in the second frame to leave Gordon just one set away from overall defeat.

Though UNE looked on their way to closing out the night in the third, the Scots rallied from behind on the standout play of Lauren Kranyak (Jr./Locust Grove, Va.), who posted five kills to help lead her team to the 25-23 decision.

That was as close as the host Scots would get, however, as UNE iced the match victory in the fourth with a 25-17 win.

UNE's effort was paced by Jackie Stone (Sr./Saginaw, Mich.) who recorded 22 digs, seven kills, and five assists on the night, while teammate Angie Brunette (Jr./North Andover, Mass.) posted 13 kills and Paige Curran (Sr./Chelmsford, Mass.) had 12 kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists.

Kranyak closed out the night with 18 kills and three digs for Gordon, while Joy Kimmel (So./Madison, Conn.) had 34 assists and 13 digs on the night.

The Scots look to bounce back on Thursday, Oct. 4 as they face non-conference Salem State at 7 p.m. UNE will travel to Eastern Connecticut State for a tournament on Oct. 6.
