Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Finds Groove Against Clark

WENHAM, Mass.—Goals by Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) and Evan Crocker (Akron, Ohio) ended a scoreless tie early in the first half, as the Fighting Scots Men's Soccer team stayed perfect with a 2-0 win over Clark University under the Brigham Athletic Complex lights. Gordon's non-stop offensive attack finally broke through in the 50th minute and never looked back on its way to a sixth consecutive victory.

A series of close calls over the last two weeks refocused the Fighting Scots in the few days of practice leading up to a non-conference matchup with Clark. Gordon's quick-touch attack had been lacking its usual punch at times during its 5-0 start to the season, but the Fighting Scots showcased a flurry of dynamic scoring opportunities and beautiful feeds early in the first half of Wednesday's game.

The Fighting Scots kept Clark goalkeeper Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) busy from almost the opening kick, as Kristian Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) sent a screamer from the right side just five minutes in that had to be saved. In the ninth minute, Crocker chipped in a ball that was pushed away by Maguire.

The onslaught on Clark's net continued for the remainder of the half, but Clark's defense stonewalled Gordon to a scoreless tie at halftime. Gordon outshot the Cougars 10-1 in the period, eight of which were saved by Maguire and forced three corner kicks.

Nathan Bilbie (Shrewsbury, Pa.) drove the ball down the field three minutes into the second half and ripped a shot just outside of the left post. Gordon was able to keep the ball pinned in their offensive half, which led directly to Cole stealing the impending goal kick. Cole split two defenders just outside the 18-yard box on the left side and rifled a shot into the right corner off a bounce for the first goal.

In the 60th minute Crocker made it 2-0 with a nifty goal along the goal line. Crocker saved a feed from going out, spun the ball past his marker and took a touch toward the net. The senior midfielder got enough clearance from his defender to send a line drive past Maguire for the insurance goal.

Gordon was able to lock down their defense in the final 30 minutes, while still pushing the ball upfield for another score. Maguire added four more saves in the second period and finished with 12 overall in the losing effort. Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) had two saves to earn his second clean sheet of the season.

Clark falls to 3-4 on the season and begins NEWMAC action on Saturday at WPI. Gordon returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday at the University of New England at 2:30 p.m.
