Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lions Protect Den from Young Scots

QUINCY, Mass.—Gordon Men's Basketball struggled to slowdown the acrobatic offense of unbeaten Eastern Nazarene in a 100-84 loss to the Lions at the Lahue Physical Education Center on Tuesday night. The Lions received 20 points off bench from both Jaylen Owens and Lequan Gomes to breeze past the Scots in front of a raucous home crowd.

The Fighting Scots drop their second straight Commonwealth Coast Conference game and sit at 1-2 after the first wave of CCC contests. The Scots drop under .500 for the first time as well at 3-4. Eastern Nazarene stays undefeated at 9-0 and is the only 3-0 team in the conference after the early spurt.

Things looked good for the Scots early, as they were able to force tough shots for the high-powered Lions. Gordon led by as much as five points during the first 10 minutes when the Lions started to connect on the fast-break attempts.

Eastern Nazarene wiped out the deficit and broke open a close game in a big way. After being held in check over the first quarter of the game, the Lions exploded for 23 points in a five-minute stretch to take a commanding 40-29 advantage.

The closest Gordon would get at making a comeback occurred when freshmen Eric Demers (West Wareham, Mass.) and Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) hit back-to-back triples to draw within six.

However, Eastern Nazarene ran its lead back to double digits rather quickly and held the comfortable advantage for the remainder of the contest.

Gordon hopes to turn things around this weekend with a trip to Pennsylvania to take on Penn College and host Lycoming on Friday and Saturday.

For the Scots
  • All five starters scored at least 10 points for the second time this season. They previously did so in an 80-77 win over Fisher in the second game of the season.

  • Jaren Yang and Szilagyi both contributed 14 points. Yang also had a team-high six assists as Gordon distributed the ball 20 times, a season best.
