WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Men's Tennis bounced back from a two-match skid to hand Western New England a 6-3 on the first match played at the Brigham Athletic Complex this spring. The Fighting Scots improve to 3-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while the Golden Bears drop to 2-2 in conference play.
 
Mike D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) broke open the match with an 8-2 win at second doubles over Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) and Adam Zimmerman (South Windsor, Conn.). Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) made it 2-0 Gordon by doubling up Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and PJ Nassar (Longmeadow, Mass.) at first dubs.
 
The Golden Bears took a point back with an 8-4 at third doubles by seniors Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) and Greg Tischofer (Portland, Conn.).
 
Hall and Casady made quick work of Sause and Otero at the top two singles flights to put Gordon within a point of winning the match outright. Spear took a 6-2 loss in the first set, but rallied to beat D'Antuono 6-2, 6-1 in the final two sets at third singles to keep Gordon from clinching.
 
The second wave of singles matches allowed the Fighting Scots to finally grab the victory when James Hawn (Southborough, Mass.) beat Peter LeFrancois (Marlborough, Mass.) 6-1, 6-3 at the fourth flight. Godwin added another point for the Scots at fifth singles, while Tischofer took two super tiebreakers against Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) for the Golden Bears final point.
 
Western New England stays on the road Tuesday for a CCC matchup with Salve Regina. Gordon has another slugfest on the docket with Roger Williams quickly approaching on Tuesday in Bristol, R.I.
