BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team stayed perfect in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 6-3 win over Gordon College Tuesday afternoon.
The 7-0 conference record for Roger Williams is the team's best start in CCC play since 2013, when the Hawks finished the year undefeated in the conference at 8-0.
Prior to the match, RWU seniors Kyle Bull (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.), and Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) were honored for their dedication to the program over the past four years.
All three seniors would play major roles for the Hawks on the day. Bull and Bussiere paired up at #2 doubles to earn an 8-4 win over Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.). Swanson and Bull would later capture wins at singles for RWU. Swanson came home with a 6-0, 6-2 victory against D'Antuono at #2, while Bull defeated Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) at #6.
Gordon managed to get wins at singles at the top two flights, with Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) winning 6-3, 6-2 at #1 and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) earning a win via retire at #2.
Roger Williams (10-4, 7-0 CCC) plays its final CCC match on Saturday at Wentworth Institute of Technology, while Gordon (10-3, 3-2 CCC) hosts UMass-Boston on Thursday.
