FITCHBURG, Mass.—Gordon Track & Field took down three more program records on Saturday afternoon while competing at the Erich Loeschner Invitational at Fitchburg State. Zak Flowers (Fountain Valley, Calif.), Matt Galiano-Williams (Pennington, N.J.) and Leslie Bynum (Hamilton, Mass.) all secured school records during the meet.
Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) did not compete in some of her usual short distance events, but manufactured a third-place finish in the 400 meter dash. The sophomore sprinter finished just a split second over a minute and just behind Emily Gustavson from Wheaton.
Gordon's 4x400 relay team came in second place with a time of 4:17.42. WPI's top team won the event with host Fitchburg State coming in third, 13 seconds behind the Fighting Scots.
Bynum secured a school record in the discus event for the third consecutive meet and came in sixth overall. Her toss of 33.90 meters was just behind fellow freshman Katie McManus from WPI. Bynum and Emily Caren (Warwick, N.Y.) also posted solid finishes in the javelin and hammer throw respectively.
On the men's side, Flowers once again led the way for the Scots with top three finishes in the discus and hammer throw—breaking the school record in both events. The senior thrower put forth a discus throw of 43.34 meters and was the top collegiate finisher. In the hammer throw, Flowers finished six-tenths of a meter behind Edward Cummins of RIC and eight meters ahead of the third-place finisher.
Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) kicked down the stretch to a second-place finish in the 1,500 meter. Galiano-Williams broke the 400-meter hurdles record with a fifth place result in the event. He finished with a time of 58.92.
Sophomore Edison Thayer (Boxford, Mass.) finished fourth overall in the javelin throw and smashing his personal best in the process with a mark of 49.44.
The men finished fifth at the meet with 52 total points. WPI won overall with 186.5 team points.
The next meet for both team's is the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship, which has been moved from Gordon to Portsmouth, R.I. due to facilities complications left over from the winter.
