WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Men's Tennis improved to 9-1 in non-conference matches this season with an 8-1 win over visiting Rhode Island College. The Fighting Scots managed comfortable leads throughout the match, but Anchormen sophomore Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, R.I.) pulled off a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles to give RIC its lone point.
Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) started off the match by blanking their opponents at the first doubles flight. Mike D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) gave Gordon its second point of the match with an 8-2 trumping at the second slot. James Hawn (Southborough, Mass.) and Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) made it a perfect sweep of doubles with an 8-2 win as well.
Hall and Casady closed out the match result with 6-0, 6-0 finishes at the top two spots. Godwin dropped one game in the first set before a 6-0 second set at fourth singles and Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) beat Brain Gil (North Providence, R.I.) in straight sets.
After Taggart finished off Hawn at third singles, Daugherty closed out the match for Gordon with an identical 6-2, 6-2 triumph.
Rhode Island College falls to 3-8 this season, while Gordon improves to 14-3. The Fighting Scots have Friday off before an important matchup at Endicott on Saturday to decide the third and fourth seeds in the Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs.
