POMFRET, Conn.—Commonwealth Coast Conference favorite Nichols handed Gordon its second consecutive loss, 8-1, on Wednesday night at the Pomfret School. Freshman Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) provided Gordon's only point of the night with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
 
The Bison protected their home court by pouncing on the Fighting Scots from the very start. Nichols took second and third doubles by identical 8-1 scores to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) and Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) consistently stayed ahead of Gordon's top duo, handing Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Casady their first dual-match loss of the season, 8-4.
 
Things proved to be just as tough for the Scots in singles action. Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.), Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, D.R.) and Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) only dropped one game apiece in straight-set matches. Gordon's Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) put up a fight against DuBois at sixth singles before falling 6-1, 6-2.
 
Gordon's final two chances at a point came at the top two singles slots. Roode fended off Hall in the first set 7-5 before turning on the jets in the second, 6-1. Casady won a barnburner with fellow Californian James Smith (Monte Sereno, Calif.) in straight sets.
 
The Fighting Scots have two days off before playing a home CCC match against Western New England on Saturday at noon.
