WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Men's Soccer suffered a disappointing result in the regular season finale, falling to rival Endicott 1-0 at the Brigham Athletic Complex. For the second straight year, the Gulls needed just one score to beat the Fighting Scots during the regular-season matchup and claiming the top seed in this weekend's Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament.
Despite outshooting the Gulls 11-6 for the game and 5-3 on frame, Endicott provided the only moment of excitement in the 33rd minute of regulation. A foul committed by the Scots well inside Endicott territory set up an improbable chance for the Gulls. The long ball was flicked into the fray by Diego Maillo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), last season's hero, allowing Jesse Martinez (Walpole, Mass.) to put a shot just inside the post and into the net.
Gordon pressured well at times in the second half, but could never tempt fate with the equalizer. Endicott keeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) made five saves on the night and put up his eighth conference clean sheet of the season. The only two goals Weinstein allowed in CCC play was in a 2-1 loss to Nichols a few weeks ago.
Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) made two stops in limited looks.
The Fighting Scots will await official word about seeding from the CCC, but will host a playoff game on Saturday afternoon.
