ORANGE, Fla.—A nine-goal run in the first half by Chapman University broke open the game as the Panthers handily defeated Gordon 17-3 in the Scots final game on the West Coast. Gordon remains without a win this season at 0-4, while Chapman improves to 6-1 on the year.
Offense was hard to come by for the Scots, who came into the game showcasing an ability to score despite the winless record. The Panthers scored seven goals in the first 20 minutes, while holding Gordon to one Bailey Grinnell (S. Hamilton, Mass.) goal in the fifth minute. Chapman led 8-3 at the break after Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) added two goals before the end of the half.
It was all Chapman in the second half as the Panthers scored nine straight goals while holding Gordon to zero scores in the period. The Scots had not been held to a scoreless period in over five seasons.
Chapman had four players with at least three goals and took 22 more shots than the Scots, who had their lowest shot output in quite some time at 11 attempts. Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.) had 10 saves in the loss.
Gordon will look to break the tough stretch on Wednesday when they host MIT at 7 p.m. up at Brigham.
