Gulls Down Scots in Conference Opener

BEVERLY, Mass.—Commonwealth Coast Conference favorite Endicott dealt Gordon its eighth loss of the season, 19-5. The Gulls outscored the Scots by nine in the opening period and ran away with things down the stretch in the conference opener for Gordon.

Endicott improves to 3-6 this season and 2-0 in the CCC after beating Salve Regina in February. The loss drops Gordon's record to 0-8 during the 2016 campaign.

Standout junior Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) six times in the first quarter and twice more in the second to open up a wide distance for first place in the CCC in goals this spring. Jennings scored seven of Endicott's first 10 goals, as the Gulls were able to build up a 10-0 lead after 17 minutes of play.

Gordon senior Roger Evans (Oxford, Pa.) scored Gordon's only first-half strike with 12:23 to go in the second period, but Endicott scored the final five goals of the period to take a 15-1 advantage at the half.

Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) opened up the scoring in the second half by capitalizing on a pass from Jake Martin (Watertown, Conn.). Endicott also only tallied one goal in the third quarter.

Both teams put home three goals in the final period as Manganiello scored his second of the day and Martin finished off his 10th and 11th goals of the season in the waning minutes.

Endicott held a 53-20 shot advantage and 33 of its attempts were on frame. Gordon goalkeeper Cody Greenwald (Albany, N.Y.) made 14 saves despite taking the loss.

Jennings led the way with nine total points, adding one assist to his eight goals. Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.) put in two goals and assisted six more for eight total points.

The Gulls won 23-of-28 face-offs to help create their prolific attack.

Gordon will look to rebound on Saturday when they host Nichols at 2:30 p.m.
