BEVERLY, Mass.—For the first time since 2007, Gordon Women's Lacrosse triumphed over local rival Endicott. The Fighting Scots fell behind by two goals in the second half, but scored the final four goals in regulation to beat the host Gulls 10-8 at Hempstead Field on Wednesday night.
The impressive win vaults Gordon to 2-5 this season and a 1-0 record in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott falls to 1-8 this season and 0-1 in the conference.
Gordon showcased a time-heavy possession attack for much of the first half, patiently waiting for the perfect moment to strike on Endicott's defense. After giving up an early goal, Gordon held one-goal leads at 2-1 and 4-3 with time dwindling in the first half.
However, Endicott scored twice in the final five minutes of the opening 30 minutes to take a 5-4 advantage heading into the locker rooms.
Bailey Grinnell (S. Hamilton, Mass.) led the Fighting Scots with two goals in the first half.
Grinnell completed her hat trick to tie the game early in the second half, but the Gulls scored three of the next four goals to take an 8-6 lead with 22:35 to go.
Jess Glenn's (Underhill, Vt.) goal with just under 23 minutes remaining would be Endicott's final shot put past
Jackie Kiernan (Lexington, Mass.).
Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) scored a man-up goal with 16:45 remaining before
Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) fired home a goal on a free-position to tie things up at eight a side.
McCarrick completed her four-goal game just a minute after knotting the game to give Gordon its first lead since the 24
th minute. Junior
MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) found the right time to hit pay dirt for the first time on the year, putting Gordon up by two with eight and change to go.
The Scots played a game of keep away for much of the final eight minutes to seal the statement win.
Kiernan made nine saves in the game, many coming in big moments with Endicott looking to extend its lead in the second half.
Gordon will look to keep its winning streak alive on Saturday when they welcome Nichols to the Brigham Athletic Complex at 11:30 a.m.
