Beveridge Scores Late to Push Scots Past Nor'easters

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Gordon traveled to take on the University of New England in CCC action and only allowed ten shots in its 1-0 victory.

The Fighting Scots (8-4-1, 3-1-1 CCC) started off quickly on offense as they put three shots on goal in the first three minutes of the game. They also kept the ball away from the Nor'easters (2-12, 1-4 CCC) most of the half as they only allowed four shots in the half while they put four of their ten shots on goal. They had two scoring chances at the end of the half. Josh Cochran's shot was blocked in the 44th minute and Joshua Winnett's header sailed wide right with ten seconds left to make it a 0-0 game going into halftime.

The University of New England upped the pressure in the second half as Callum Heaslewood's shot in the 54th minute was on target, but Wesley Sprague saved it from going in. Gordon continued to create scoring opportunities, but five out of their next six shots were off target. In that same time span, the Nor'easters put both of their shots on goal that were stopped by Sprague. Jerry Williams put two headers on goal in the 76th and 77th minute with both being saved by Nathan Delesdernier. The University of New England responded by putting two shots on goal in a three-minute span, but Sprague stopped them to keep the game tied at 0-0. Josh Beveridge broke the tie in the 87th minute as he received a cross from Tim Andrassy and put it past the keeper. The Nor'easters were able to get a shot off with three seconds left in the game, but Danny O'Brien's shot went wide left to seal the win.

Sprague recorded all five of his saves in the second half and has now posted five straight shutouts.

Gordon next travels to face Nichols in CCC action Oct. 14 at 11 a.m.
