DUDLEY, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and attempted 13 corner kicks in its 2-1 victory.
The Bison (6-6-2, 2-4, CCC) started off the game fast on offense as they attempted two shots in the first two minutes with both shots going wide of the net.
Josh Cochran scored the Fighting Scots (9-4-1, 4-1-1 CCC) first goal in the tenth minute as he shot the ball from 40 yards out and the line drive shot went right past the goalie. They kept up the pressure with another shot by Cochran in the 14
th minute that was wide of the net. Gordon misplayed the ball on their own side of the field which led to an own goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 27
th minute. They dominated possession for the rest of the half as they attempted three corner kicks that led led to a shot by
Matt Chartier that was saved by J. Carlos De La Cruz in the 32
nd minute.
Danny Nkhalamba attempted a corner kick with 26 seconds left in the half, but they were unable to attempt a shot to keep the game at 1-1 entering halftime.
The Fighting Scots kept up the pressure in the second half as they had three corner kicks in the first three minutes of the half. They were unable to get off a shot until the 50
th minute when Cochran's shot went wide of the goal. Nichols' defense continued to hold as they allowed Gordon to stay on their side of the field, but repeatedly stopped them from attempting a shot. The Bison had a scoring opportunity in the 71
st minute, but were called offside. Corey McEvoy's shot in the 76
th minute was blocked and Matt Baker's shot in the 77
th minute was saved by
Wesley Sprague to keep the game tied at 1-1. Chartier received a pass from
Blake Troiani and put it into the left side of the goal to give Gordon a 2-1 lead with seven minutes left in the game. McEvoy's shot in the 88
th minute went wide of the net to seal the win for the Fighting Scots.
Gordon next travels to take on CCC opponent Eastern Nazarene Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
