Leopards Down Scots in CCC Play

BOSTON — Gordon traveled to play Wentworth in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and recorded a .162 hitting percentage in its 3-1 loss.

The Fighting Scots (11-9, 2-3 CCC) won the first set 25-23 as they recorded 16 kills and a .255 hitting percentage. They traded points back and forth with the Leopards (20-2, 4-1 CCC) until they were tied 10-10. Gordon scored ten out of the next 18 points to make it a 20-18 set. Wentworth tied the set at 20 with back to back kills and then the Fighting Scots scored five out of the next eight points to take the set.

Gordon committed eight attack errors in the second set as Wentworth won the set 25-13. The Leopards started the set with a 9-6 run. That would be the closest the set would get as they outscored the Fighting Scots 16-7 the rest of the set.

Wentworth won the third set 25-23 as they recorded four aces and three blocks in the set. They started the set with a 10-5 run. Gordon cut the deficit down to three points off errors by the Leopards and kills by Amanda Snyder. Wentworth responded by scoring ten out of the next 14 points to make it a 21-13 set. The Fighting Scots responded by scoring three points in a row on kills by Mackenzie Hinds, Meghan Hokanson, and Snyder which forced the Leopards to take a time out. Wentworth scored three out of the next four points to force set point with the score at 24-17. Gordon countered by scoring six points in a row on two errors by the Leopards and kills by Snyder and Jamie Tafoya to cut the deficit to one point. Wentworth scored the next point with a kill by Claire Quick to win the set.

The Leopards won the fourth set 25-19 to win the match. They tallied 16 kills and a .519 hitting percentage in the set. The set went back and forth until a kill by Hinds made it a 15-14 set with Wentworth in the lead. They scored seven out of the next eight points to stretch the lead out to seven points. They added two more points with a block by Samantha Lassister and a kill by Leah Rogoz to force match point at 24-16. Snyder tallied a kill and Hokanson recorded back-to-back aces to cut the lead to five points before Snyder committed an attack error to end the match.

Snyder led the team with 19 kills and also recorded nine digs. Hinds tallied ten kills and four digs. Ashlyn Gergins recorded 44 assists and eight digs.

The Fighting Scots next travel to take on Roger Williams in CCC play Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
