Scots Fall to Hawks in CCC Action

BRISTOL, R.I. — Gordon traveled to play Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference play and allowed 42 kills in its 3-0 loss.

The Hawks (15-6, 6-0 CCC) took the first set 25-20 as they recorded a .321 hitting percentage. They started the set with a 10-9 run. That would be the closest the set would get as they outscored the Fighting Scots 15-9 the rest of the way.

Roger Williams won the second set 25-20 and recorded 16 kills in the set. The teams traded points back and forth at the beginning of the set. Gordon took a 12-10 lead on a kill by Jamie Tafoya. The Hawks scored four in a row to take a two-point lead. The Fighting Scots tied the game at 14-14 with kills by Meghan Hokanson and Mackenzie Hinds. Roger Williams scored 11 out of the next 17 points to take the set.

The Hawks won the third set 26-24 as they recorded a .263 hitting percentage and forced seven errors. Roger Williams took an early 10-6 lead before Gordon scored three in a row to make it a one-point set. They took a 13-12 lead by scoring four out of the next six points. The Hawks countered by going on a 7-2 run to take a 20-15 lead. The Fighting Scots scored five straight on kills by Jenny Curtiss, Tafoya, Hinds, and two aces by Tafoya to tie the set at 20-20. Roger Williams scored four out of the next seven points to set up match point at 24-23. Amanda Snyder recorded a kill to tie the set at 24-24. The Hawks scored two straight points on a kill by Molly Quilty and a block by Quilty and Nicki Fallisi to win the set and the match.

Snyder recorded 12 kills and four digs. Hinds tallied ten kills and Tafoya had six kills and three aces. Curtiss led the team with 13 digs. Ashlyn Gergins tied her season-high in a three-set match with 29 assists.

Gordon next travels to take on CCC foe Eastern Nazarene Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
