Scots Shutout Golden Bears to Advance to CCC Championship Game

WENHAM, Mass. — No. 2 seed Gordon hosted No. 3 seed Western New England in the semifinals of the CCC Tournament and held them to 11 shots in its 1-0 victory.

The Golden Bears (12-7-1) came out of the gate firing on offense as they attempted four shots in the first 20 minutes of the game. Logan Pingree's shot in the 14th minute was saved by Wesley Sprague to keep Western New England off the scoreboard. Jerry Williams put the Fighting Scots (13-5-1) on the board in the 23rd minute as he headed a pass from Ben Gradert past the keeper for his first goal of the season. Gordon limited the Golden Bears to two shots the rest of the half with none being on target while their two shots went wide right and wide left of the net.

In the second half, Western New England kept up the pressure as they put four shots on goal in the half. They had two great scoring opportunities in the 66th minute. Troy Remillard's shot was stopped by Sprague, but he had to leave the goal to swat the ball away. That left the goal open to Logan Pingree, but Gradert stepped in front of the goal and headed the ball away to keep Gordon up 1-0. Bryan Doyle's shot in the 80th minute was saved by Sprague and the Fighting Scots backline held them without a shot in the last ten minutes of action to seal the victory.

No. 2 seed Gordon will travel to play No. 1 seed Endicott in the CCC Men's Soccer Championship game Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. The game is a rematch of the 2015 CCC Championship game with No. 3 seed Gordon winning the CCC Championship 2-0 over No. 2 seed Endicott and advancing to the NCAA tournament.
