Gulls Down Scots in CCC Action

WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference action and committed 32 errors in its 3-0 loss.

The teams traded points back and forth at the start of the first set. After Jamie Tafoya tied the game at 11-11 with a kill, the Gulls (11-6, 4-1 CCC) scored four out of the next five for a three- point lead. The Fighting Scots (10-7, 2-2) went on a 7-4 run to tie the game at 19-19. Endicott scored six out of the next eight points to take the set 25-21.

The Gulls started the second set with a 10-5 run for a five-point lead. Gordon scored the next three in row to cut the deficit to two points. Endicott countered by five in a row to make it 15-8. They stretched their lead out to six points before Gordon scored five in a row on kills by Amanda Snyder and Ashlyn Gergins along with blocks by Snyder and Jacque Fitzgerald to make it a one-point game. They tied it up at 20-20 with a kill by Snyder and a block by Tafoya and Fitzgerald. The Gulls responded by scoring four in a row to set up match point. The Fighting Scots fought back and scored three in a row to cut the deficit to one. Endicott won the set 25-23 on a kill by Alex Dippel. 

In the third set, Endicott started out the set with a 10-6 run. Gordon cut the lead to two with two kills by Snyder. The Gulls scored nine out of the next 13 points to stretch the lead out to seven. Snyder recorded a kill and Meghan Hokanson served an ace to cut the lead down to five. Endicott closed out the match with a 6-4 run to secure the sweep.

Snyder recorded 12 kills, four digs, and three aces. Hinds tallied 11 kills and eight digs. Gergins recorded 27 assists and four digs. Jenny Curtiss led the team with 11 digs.

The Fighting Scots next travel to take on UMass Dartmouth and Brandeis in a tri-match Oct. 7. They will play UMass Dartmouth first at 10 a.m. before taking on Brandeis at 12 p.m.
