WALTHAM, Mass. — Gordon traveled to play a tri-match against UMass Dartmouth and Brandeis. Gordon took the first game 3-1 against UMass Dartmouth and fell in the second game 3-0 against Brandeis.
In the first match, The Fighting Scots (11-8) took the first set 25-19 as they held the Corsairs (8-8) to a .086 hitting percentage. The teams traded points back and forth for most of the set until Gordon scored two in a row to take 12-9 lead. UMass Dartmouth scored four in row to take a one-point lead. The Fighting Scots went on a 7-3 run to make it a four-point game. They closed out the set by scoring five out of the next eight points.
The Corsairs took the second set 25-21 as they recorded 12 kills and forced Gordon into nine errors. They had a 16-10 lead before allowing the Fighting Scots to score seven out of the next eight points to tie the game at 17-17. The Corsairs outscored them 8-4 the rest of the way to close out the set.
Gordon won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-14 by recording a combined 22 kills and forcing a combined 18 errors. They also posted a .212 hitting percentage in the third set and a .316 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
Mackenzie Hinds led the team with 13 kills and also recorded five digs.
Amanda Snyder recorded a double-double with 17 digs and 11 kills. She also tallied a career-high six aces.
Sophia Scola recorded career-highs in kills with ten and in digs with nine.
In the second match, the Judges (9-6) held the Fighting Scots to six kills in their 25-15 first set win.
Brandeis took the second set 25-22 as they recorded 14 kills. The teams traded points back and forth to start off the set before Gordon took a 15-9 lead. Brandeis scored five points in a row to cut the deficit to one. The Fighting Scots countered by scoring six out of the next nine points to take a 21-17 lead. The Judges scored eight out of the next nine points to win the set.
In the third set, Brandeis posted 15 kills and a .353 hitting percentage to take the set 25-15. They held Gordon to a .088 hitting percentage and forced nine errors.
Snyder led the team with eight kills and four digs. Hinds posted seven kills and five digs.
Ashlyn Gergins recorded 21 assists and a career-high four kills.
Jenny Curtiss led the team with 14 kills and also had four assists.
The Fighting Scots next travel to take on Wentworth in CCC play Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
