WHITTIER, Calif. — Gordon traveled to take on Whittier in its final non-conference game of the season and made 12 three-pointers in its 97-85 win.
The Poets (3-8) started the game with a 19-12 run for a seven-point lead. The Fighting Scots (5-5) countered with a 14-6 run to take a one-point lead. Whittier built their lead up back to nine points before Gordon closed out the first half with a 12-4 run to make it a 47-46 Poets lead at halftime.
Eric Demers scored 17 points and pulled in two rebounds in the first half.
Jaren Yang scored 11 points and
Josh Ribeiro grabbed six rebounds.
The Fighting Scots started the second half by scoring seven consecutive points to take a five-point lead. Whittier regained the lead with an 8-2 run. The teams traded the lead back and forth for the next couple of minutes and then Gordon went on a 20-5 run from the 11:59 mark to the 7:15 mark to go up by 15 points. The Poets were able to cut the deficit down to nine points with a 6-0 run, but the Fighting Scots responded by outscoring them 16-13 to seal the win.
Five players scored in double-digits for Gordon. Demers finished with 20 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Jake Haar and
Jaren Yang both scored a season-high 16 points.
Garrisson Duvivier recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He also led the team with five assists, two blocks, and two steals. Ribeiro finished with a career-best eight rebounds.
The Fighting Scots next travel to take on CCC foe Western New England Jan. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
