HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.—Gordon Men's Tennis upped its record to 3-0 on its Southern tour with a 5-1 result over Messiah at the Chaplin Park Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots didn't allow a rain delay put a damper on running out to their sixth win of the season.
It was the Falcons who took the first lead of the match when Devin Esch and Austin Warren doubled up Mike D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Eric Kim (La Crescenta, Calif.) at the second flight, 8-4.
However, it was all Gordon for the rest of the way beginning with another win for the top flight combo of Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Nate Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.), 8-3. Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) and Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, Calif.) followed suit by outlasting their opponents 8-3 at the third spot.
Lookwhy extended the Gordon lead to 3-1 with a convincing 6-3, 7-5 win over Connor Graybeal at second singles before Casady brought the Scots to brink of victory. He won the first set in a tiebreaker before cruising in the second set 6-0. Frink was the decision-maker with another straight-set win for the Scots at third singles.
Due to the rain, the match was played to decision and the bottom three flights of singles were unable to compete.
The Fighting Scots face one of their stiffest tests yet when they take on Millsaps tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
