LEESBURG, Fla.—Bowdoin took a pair of low-scoring games to sweep Gordon on the penultimate day of the Scots' spring break trip. Fresh off a big win over No. 24 Suffolk, Gordon only totaled three runs against the Polar Bears to fall to 3-5 on the season. Bowdoin improves its record to 3-3.
The Polar Bears built up a 4-0 lead over the first three innings of game one, scoring one in each the first and second before added two more in the third. Evann Dumont and Sawyer Billi each doubled in runs to give Bowdoin the 2-0 lead after two. Dumont was a spark in the third as well with another double in the middle of a rally, as he scored on a two-RBI single for Colby Joncas.
Gordon rookie
Morgan Hyde (Thomson, Ga.) tried to jumpstart Gordon's offense with a pair of hits, but the Fighting Scots were unable to capitalize in the first or third innings. The Scots only scored in the seventh when Bowdoin's reliever got wild as
Addison Tarr (Oxnard, Calif.) was hit before advancing to bases on wild pitches and scoring on a balk.
Matt Amore (Pequannock, N.J.) took his first loss of the season despite striking out five.
The Fighting Scots struck gold first in game two with a run in the second inning. However, Bowdoin went on a 5-0 run between the third and seventh innings to put the Scots in a deep hole.
Gordon was able to string more hits together with six, same as the Polar Bears, but left runners in scoring position on several occasions. Like the first game, Gordon scored in the seventh inning, but far too late to overcome a four-run deficit in the 5-2 loss.
Connor Rogotzke pitched well with eight K's and only three earned runs allowed.
Dean Demers (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and Hyde have now registered a hit in every game this season.
The Fighting Scots will conclude their trip in the morning against Franklin & Marshall at 9:30 a.m.
