Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Scots Not Distracted by Lasers, Complete Epic Comeback

WENHAM, Mass.—A little home cooking was just what the doctor ordered for Gordon Women's Lacrosse, as they pulled off a second-half comeback to beat Lasell, 14-13, on the Brigham turf. Senior Caroline Walton (Irvine, Calif.) had a career day with six goals, but most importantly sent home what ended as the game-winner with 3:46 to go in regulation.

The Fighting Scots swiftly snapped a two-game skid and remained perfect on their home turf with a 3-0 mark. Gordon is 4-3 overall on the year. Lasell dips to even at 3-3 as Gordon becomes the first Commonwealth Coast Conference team to hand the Lasers a loss in 2017—3-0 in previous with wins over Salve, Curry and Nichols.

The first half was a scoring fest as each offense came out hot. Lasell scored just 20 seconds into regulation before Gordon answered 20 seconds after that. Not to break a trend, Lasell's Vanessa Pino (Methuen, Mass.) scored just after the turn of the opening minute to quickly make it a 2-1 game.

Gordon owned the next five minutes of action as the Fighting Scots didn't take much time to turn a deficit into a 5-2 lead. MC Aston (Greenwich, N.Y.) scored her second of the game to answer Pino's call before Walton, Hannah Schilke (Westerly, R.I.) and Olivia McCarrick (Glen Burnie, Md.) found the back of the net in succession.

Following a timeout, Lasell looked more fluid on offense led by leading goal scorer Taylor Yandow (Moretown, Vt.). Yandow scored three of the next five goals overall to knot the game at six with 18:49 to go in first half. After Gordon's Walton completed a hat trick a minute later to make it 7-6, Lasell went on a 4-0 run to end the period. Yandow and Pino each had four goals in the first half to pace the Laser offense.

Momentum shifted greatly in Gordon's direction in the second half as the Scots kept their opponents off the scoreboard for 16 minutes. During that time, Gordon tacked five goals on the board to regain control of the game at 12-10. Walton and McCarrick each had two scores in that span. Lasell's Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) broke the run, only for Gordon to continue it on the other side with two more. Walton's strike with 3:46 capped off a 7-1 stretch.

Lasell made things interesting in the waning moments, scoring two goals in 40 seconds to bring the lead back to one. However, Gordon got a big stop in the final minute to preserve a big mid-season victory.

Yandow had five goals on nine shots, while Pino finished with four goals to pace the Lasers. Bridget Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) played the entire game for Lasell and made seven stops in the loss.

Anastasia Landman (Cheswick, Pa.) came in at the 10-minute mark for the Scots and made seven saves to earn her first career victory in net.

Walton's outburst tied her for the team lead in points with McCarrick, who contributed four goals and two assists. Aston had two and two, while Anna Rourke (Hamilton, Mass.) finished with a goal and two assists.

Gordon had 13 caused turnovers, led by Hannah Bourk (Barrington, R.I.).

The Lasers will look to get back on track on Saturday when they head back home to take on Emmanuel. Gordon will go down to Milton for the CCC opener against Curry on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
