Scots Snap Two Records in Spring Debut

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.—Gordon Track and Field opened its 2017 season at the Wesleyan University Spring Classic on Saturday. Senior sprinter Corrine Previte (Danvers, Mass.) started off on the right foot with an individual win in the 400m and second place in the 200m races.

Track Highlights

Previte got the party started early with a second-place showing in the 200 meter event. She broke her own school record by two hundredths of a second at 26.78. She broke a second school record, again her own, just an event later in the 400. The local product torched the competition by six seconds and shaved off three hundredths of a second off the program-best mark.
Junior Kayla Kroning (Tuxedo Park, N.Y.) finished sixth in the half-mile with a time of 2:43.49.
Angie Epplett (Uxbridge, Mass.) excelled in distance as she did in the fall, rolling to a win in the 5,000m race. The rookie beat the next best competitor by five seconds for a finishing time of 19:57.12.
Colin Ponzani (Avon, Conn.) finished in the top 10 of a crowded 800 men's race.
Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) was fourth in the 1,500 meter at just a few ticks above four minutes.

Field Highlights

Sophomore Maddie St. Julien (Wareham, Mass.) finished just six inches short of the Gordon record in the triple jump and was second overall.

What's Next?

As long as the weather holds up, Gordon will head outside for the first time this year in the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State next weekend.
