Scots Manufacture Complete Game to Beat Leopards

BOSTON, Mass. – Juniors Nico Manganiello (Peabody, Mass.) and Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) scored four goals apiece to help the Gordon College men's lacrosse team pick up a 15-10 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Wednesday night.

With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 4-6 overall and 1-3 in CCC play while the Leopards see their record even out at 5-5 overall and stand at 1-3 in league play.

Manganiello scored three of his team's four first-quarter goals while Palandjian added a marker as the teams were tied, 1-1, at the end of 15 minutes of play.  Freshman Riley Smith (Plaistow, N.H.), sophomore Spencer Allen (New Boston, N.H.), junior Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.), and Sean Farmer (Billerica, Mass.) scored for the hosts.

Gordon took a 7-4 lead with 10:27 left in the half with two of the three goals coming 30 seconds apart off the stick of freshman Nick Tozier (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Sophomore Jason Buck (Manlius, N.Y.) put Wentworth on the board in the second quarter with 7:19 left, however the Fighting Scots scored the next three before Butler closed out the half with a goal to make it 10-6.

After sophomore Luke Tremblay (Arlington, Mass.) made it 11-6, Wentworth pulled within two goals at 11-9, thanks to goals from Buck, sophomore Chris Quinn (Newton, Mass.), and freshman Mark Howland (Lititz, Pa.).

Sophomore Austin Early (Palmyra, Va.) opened the fourth quarter with a goal to make it 12-9 before Farmer brought the hosts back within a pair (12-10) with 11:50 left. However, Palandjian scored the next three goals to round out the scoring.

In addition to his four goals, Manganiello also had an assist while Tozier had two goals and two assists and Early had two goals, one assist, and scooped up six ground balls.

Buck, Farmer, and Butler each had two goals while Smith had a goal and an assist and senior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) had four assists. Farmer had seven ground balls, sophomore Peter Andersson (Madison, N.J.) had six ground balls and was 14-of-24 at the X, and senior Eric Iacaboni (Sterling, Mass.) caused three turnovers.

Freshman Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) made nine saves for Gordon while junior Adam Dufault (Lexintgon, Mass.) made seven stops for Wentworth. Wentworth had a 46-30 shot advantage and a 48-45 edge in ground balls.
