Scots Roll to 8-1 Win at Roger Williams

Match Results
BRISTOL, R.I.—Gordon Men's Tennis took care of business in several close matches to record an impressive 8-1 victory over Roger Williams on Wednesday afternoon. The Fighting Scots get above .500 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference for the first time this spring at 2-1 and move to 10-4 overall.

For the second consecutive year, Gordon pulled a fast one on the perennial CCC contending Hawks. The two teams split a pair of 5-4 matches last year, but the Hawks had the last laugh by knocking Gordon out of the conference semifinals. The Fighting Scots were quick to put the season-ending loss behind in them in a convincing triumph over the preseason No. 3 in the CCC.

Gordon put themselves in the driver seat by outlasting the Hawks at all three doubles spots. Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Nate Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) doubled up their opponents at the top spot to get the Scots on the board, 8-4.

The Fighting Scots had to labor more at the second and third spots, but won both matches 8-6.

Rookie Eric Kim (La Crescenta, Calif.) brought the Fighting Scots to the brink of victory with the most convincing result of the afternoon, 6-2, 6-3, at fifth singles.

Roger Williams got a point back when Matt Russo (Branford, Conn.) secured a win at the sixth flight in straight sets.

The Fighting Scots controlled the match the rest of the way. Jonathan Frink (La Crescenta, Calif.) clinched match point for the visitors with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) at third singles. Mike D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) completed an identical result at the four spot. Just a few moments later, Casady finished off a perfect day with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top flight.

In the closest match of the day, RWU's Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Lookwhy were entrenched in a battle. The Gordon sophomore took the first set 6-4, but White evened the match score with a 7-4 win in the tiebreak to send it to a third. Lookwhy had just enough in the super tiebreaker to down the Hawk first-year 10-8.

Gordon has a six-day layover before hosting Wentworth next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
