WORCESTER, Mass. — Gordon recorded 63 kills in its 3-2 win against Worcester Polytechnic Institute in its second game of the Worcester City Tournament.
The Fighting Scots (2-1) won the first two sets 25-19 and 28-26. The Engineers (0-3) rallied and won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-23 to force a fifth set.
In the fifth set, WPI built up a 4-1 lead on a couple of errors by Gordon. The Fighting Scots tied the game at 5-5 with kills by
Jamie Tafoya,
Meghan Hokanson, and
Mackenzie Hinds. The teams traded the lead multiple times and until they were tied again at 13-13. Tafoya sealed the win for Gordon with back-to-back kills.
Snyder led the team with 22 kills and also had 12 digs. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Tafoya registered 18 kills, including four in the fifth set. She also had 13 digs and five aces. Hinds recorded 14 kills, 17 digs, and two total blocks.
Ashlyn Gergins had 35 assists and 14 digs.
Jenny Curtiss registered 31 digs and eight assists.
The Fighting Scots next host MIT Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.
