Second Half Goal Lifts Bison Over Scots, 2-1

Hosting the Nichols College Bison in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex tonight, the Fighting Scots mustered up a quick goal just four minutes into the game but could not find the back of the net again as the Bison took home a 2-1 victory to improve to 6-6 overall (3-5 CCC). The Scots drop to 4-11 on the season (1-7 CCC) with the loss.

The Scots got out to their fast start thanks to the stick of defender Rosalind Keeley, who netted her sixth of the season off a penalty corner to get things rolling offensively. Nichols made adjustments on both sides of the ball to answer but the Scots took control of possession throughout the half, putting up nine shots total in the frame. Nichols keeper Brooke Misbach (Jr./Guilford, Conn.) was stellar in net, though, turning away eight of those attempts to keep the game close. With momentum going Gordon's way, it looked as though the Scots would go into the half in front, but Nichols' Erin Kelley (Jr./Dighton, Mass.) capitalized in the final minute off aggressive offensive pressure to tie the game at one apiece entering the final 35.

Nichols came out with fervor in the second half to pepper the Scots' cage, but Gordon netminder Julia Altman denied each attempt at the lead to lock the game at a stalemate. Both teams traded possession through much of the second half until the 58th minute when an opportunistic Mackenzie Snow (Fr./Sanbornton, N.H.) used a Nichols penalty corner to notch the go-ahead. Though the Scots made things interesting down the stretch with several quality chances, the Bison held strong to the lead to claim the narrow one-goal win.

Up next for the Scots is another CCC tilt on the road at Salve Regina University on Saturday, October 13 at 1 p.m. Nichols will break from conference play to host Simmons on the same day at 11 a.m.
