Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Gray And Goudie Shine As Scots Sink Pilgrims, 2-1

Mackenzie Gray netted a pair of goals off two helpers from Cara Goudie to lift the Fighting Scots to a 2-1 win over the visiting Pilgrims of New England College in non-conference field hockey action today at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex.

Keeper Julia Altman recorded four saves in 70 minutes of work to earn the win for Gordon, while NEC's Christine McNeil (Sr./Pawcatuck, Conn.) absorbed the loss after a solid eight-save day.

The Scots opened the first with a flurry of offensive opportunities, firing four shots off before Gray notched her fourth of the season in the 17th minute to give Gordon the 1-0 lead. Despite another trio of chances from the Scots, it was the Pilgrims who drew next blood when Sofia Castriotta (Fr./Framingham, Mass.) recorded her 12th of the year on an unassisted effort at 24:53 to bring the game back to level.

It took Gray just five minutes into the second frame to net the go-ahead, however, as she polished off the Goudie handout for what proved to be the game-winner at the 40:58 mark. From there, the Scots' defense backed by Altman took over to deny any further scoring chances from their guests and protect the one-goal win.

The Scots return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action as they travel to take on Western New England on Friday, October 19 at 6 p.m. The Pilgrims, now 6-8 overall, are on the road at Elms College on Saturday, October 20 for a noon start.
