Hawks Blank Scots in Rainy CCC Duel, 2-0

In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey action tonight at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Fighting Scots dueled visiting Roger Williams University through 70 minutes of rainy conditions  but in the end came up short, as the Hawks used a tally in each half to secure the 2-0 league win.

With both teams trading possession and scoring opportunities throughout the majority of the first half, it looked as though the game was heading into the break deadlocked at a scoreless tie. But with just 22 ticks remaining in the period, the Hawks' Hannah Palmer (Fr./Essex Junction, Vt.) sent a feed through the area to a waiting Brooklyn Cenatiempo (Fr./Trumbull, Conn.), who slotted the ball past Scots keeper Julia Altman for the 1-0 advantage.

Play once again was even as the second half got underway until Hawks midfielder Taylor Powell (Jr./Windham, N.H.) took advantage of a penalty corner in the 55th and buried a Callie Chase (Jr./Contoocook, N.H.) pass to make it 2-0. Despite an offensive push in the waning minutes and a pair of impressive defensive saves from Gordon defender Briana Kowolenko, the Scots could not find the back of the net to close the gap and eventually ceded the two-goal loss.

Gordon, now 4-9 overall (1-5 CCC), hosts CCC foe Endicott on Saturday, October 6 at 12 p.m., while Roger Williams (6-5 overall (3-3 CCC)) hosts Lasell on Thursday, October 4 at 7 p.m.
