Under sunny skies at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex today, the Fighting Scots welcomed top-ranked Endicott College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown and, despite a gritty performance, surrendered a 5-1 decision to a powerful Gulls offense to move to 4-10 overall (1-6 CCC). The win improves the Gulls to a perfect 7-0 in league play.
Endicott's Lauren Whitney (So./Poway, Calif.) notched her second goal of the season on an unassisted effort just two minutes into the game to give the Gulls the early lead. But Gordon keeper
Katelyn Pelletier did not let an early goal spoil her collegiate debut as she denied all other attempts in her direction in the next 33 minutes for six saves to close out the half.
Similar to the first half, Endicott took advantage of an early penalty corner when Kristen McCarthy (Jr./Danvers, Mass.) found the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. Facing continued pressure from the Gulls' attack, Pelletier maintained her wall for the Scots, turning away every shot faced over the course of the next 15 minutes to keep the game within reach. Then, in the 52
nd minute, a monstrous shot from Gordon's
Cara Goudie was saved by EC keeper Taylor Farrin (So./Danvers, Mass.) and deflected out to a waiting
Rosalind Keeley, who sent the ball home to close the gap to 2-1. That was the closest the Scots would get, however, as the Gulls' determined offense continued its onslaught for three more tallies in the remaining 20 to secure the four-goal victory.
The Scots host Nichols in another CCC head-to-head on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
