Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trio Of Late Goals Lift Scots Over Colonels, 3-0

With three goals in the final nine minutes of play, Gordon Men's Soccer booked a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) win over host Curry College in the last match of the regular season to lock themselves into the No. 3 spot for the upcoming conference postseason tournament.

The game-winner from Jarvin Ramirez was his fourth goal of the year while Ian Burkhart and Joshua Winnett notched their second tallies. Keepers Brody Veleber and Wesley Sprague split duty on the day to preserve the shutout.

Though Gordon held an 11-2 shots-on-goal advantage for the match, it wasn't until the 81st minute that Ramirez broke the silence off a free kick to give his team the 1-0 edge. That goal opened the floodgates for the Scots, as Burkhart struck again just two minutes later on another free kick and Winnett put the game out of reach with a flick over Curry goalie Dylan Griffin (So./Hornell, N.Y.) with two minutes left on the clock.

Griffin finished the outing with eight saves for the Colonels, who with the loss close their season winless in CCC play at 0-8 (6-11-1 overall).

Gordon rounds out the regular season at 9-6-1 overall (5-2-1 CCC) and will host the No. 6 Nor'easters of the University of New England this coming Saturday, October 27.

Beyond the Box Score
  • Tonight's 3-0 win marked the Scots' fifth shutout of the season and third year in a row that they've blanked the Colonels.
  • Ramirez's late goal was the first game-winner of his young collegiate career.
  • In their regular season matchup with UNE on September 15, the Scots were on the winning end of a 5-0 result.
  • Said Head Coach Matt Horth, "Our guys battled well to finally break a really resolved Curry team. We struggled in front of net for the first half but found our groove later on to put in three goals."
