Scots Sweep Regis In Non-Conference Action

Gordon College Volleyball took a break from Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action tonight, traveling to Weston, Massachusetts to spoil Senior Night for the Pride of Regis College with a clean 3-0 sweep. The win improves Gordon to 15-12 overall on the year.

The opening frame was neck-and-neck with both teams trading a handful of lead changes throughout until Mackenzie Hinds tallied a pair of kills to widen the gap to 18-13. From there, the ever-steady serve of Jenny Curtiss propelled the Scots to a 25-15 victory.

Gordon then raced out to an 11-3 lead in the second, with Hinds, Jordan Shaduk, and Jamie Tafoya earning two kills apiece during that stretch. Down 22-12 after kills by Shaduk and Tafoya, the Pride fought back with a 7-2 scoring run led by two service aces by Mica van der Meulen (Fr./Colorado Springs, Colo.), but a Regis service error– one of 11 in the match– clinched the W for the Scots.

Two kills apiece by Katryna Veasey (Jr./Quincy, Mass.) and MacKenzie Emco (Sr./Sutton, Mass.) allowed the Pride to take a two-point lead early in the third, but Gordon responded with a 6-1 scoring run to pull ahead, 10-7. A solo block and a kill by Lauren Butt (Jr./Topsfield, Mass.) pulled the Pride into a 10-10 tie, but the Scots would score eight of the next nine points to establish a 20-13 advantage. Down match point, Regis rattled off five straight points to extend the match, but a Pride attack error gave the set and the match sweep to Gordon.

Hinds led the Scots with 11 kills, a .429 hitting percentage, and eight digs, while Snyder finished with seven kills and Tafoya added six. Ashlyn Gergins collected 28 assists, three service aces, and three total blocks, and libero Curtiss led the Gordon defense with 10 digs to go along with five assists and two service aces.

Gordon travels to Dudley, Massachusetts on Saturday, October 27 to take on CCC foe Nichols College in their final conference matchup of the regular season.
