Gordon College Men's Basketball netted 105 points for the second time this season en route to a 105-89 victory over the visiting Curry College Colonels at the Bennett Athletic Center this afternoon to improve to 2-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The Colonels drop to 0-2 in league play with the loss.
Gordon was led byÂ
Eric Demers who dropped 19 points,Â
Jake Haar with 12, andÂ
Garrisson Duvivier with eight points and as many rebounds, whileÂ
Aljernod Terry had a career day netting 12 points and eight rebounds for the home team.
For the visitors, RJ Hadfield (So./Warwick, R.I.) led all scorers with 26 points, Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Jr./Dorchester, Mass.) tacked on 20, and Dashawn Williams (Jr./New Haven, Conn.) added 14 points for the Colonels.
The Scots look to make it three in a row as they welcome the Golden Bears of Western New England University on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. The Colonels host Nichols College on the same day for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
How It Happened:
- Gordon jumped out to a 10-0 lead behind a balanced offense of four different scorers. The Scots would go on their second 10-point run of the first half behind the sharp shooting of Demers and Noah Szilagyi to take a 25-5 lead midway through the first.
- The Scots looked to go on their third 10-point run but were stopped by a three-pointer from Hatfield to get Curry into double-digits with five minutes remaining until the break. Terry then booked seven of the Scots' remaining 12 points to give Gordon a 52-24 lead at the break.
- Holding a comfortable lead, the Scots offense continued to do work as Josh Crutchfield hit a three-pointer from a Terry dish to double up the Colonels, 72-36, with 13 minutes remaining in regulation.
- From there, both teams traded baskets midway through before Brett Bowman hit back-to-back three-pointers to give Gordon a 34-point lead. Despite the large deficit, the Colonels persisted, going on a 10-point run to close the gap to 95-73 with four minutes left.
- Gordon dropped the hammer down the stretch, though, as the freshmen trio of Benjamin North, David Massillon, and John Saxe shined when called upon with 17 points in the final 10 minutes to aid in the Scots' win.
Beyond The Box Score:
- Aljernod Terry's 12 points and eight rebounds were career-high numbers for the junior.
- Curry sophomore RJ Hatfield also had a career day with his 26 points.
- Said Head Coach Tod Murphy: "Giving up 21 made three-pointers and having 21 turnovers will usually result in a loss, but at least we managed to get the victory. We played pretty well the first 25 minutes, but we didn't' handle their pressure in the second half. We will hopefully have a restful Sunday, and then start preparing on Monday for Tuesday's game against WNE."
