Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Put On A Show In CCC Win Over Golden Bears

Gordon College Men's Basketball welcomed the Golden Bears of Western New England in an exciting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup where the home team prevailed for their third straight CCC victory defeating the visitors, 99-70.

The Scots were led by Eric Demers who had a game-high 22 points, Garrisson Duvivier booked 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Noah Szilagyi also had 20 points on the night, shooting 3-4 from three-point land. The Scots shot a season-high 60% from the field overall.

The Golden Bears' Zachary Tavitian (So./Milford, Conn.) led WNE with 13 points and nine rebounds, while Kenny Flynn (Fr./Dudley, Mass.), Mike McGuire (Jr./Garden City, N.Y.), and Antonio Brancato (Fr./Fairfield, Conn.) scored ten, nine, and eight points respectively.

Gordon takes a break from CCC competition as they play five non-conference games in a row to close out 2018, with their next game taking place Thursday, December 6 for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Colby.

How It Happened:
  • After WNE scored the first two points of the game, the Scots went on a 17-point run with Demers and Duvivier combining for 15 of those points. The Scots led by as many as 17, but the Golden Bears rallied back after draining eight three-pointers to close the gap to three heading into the half trailing the Scots 38-41.
  • The second half was all Gordon, as the Scots would go on another 17-point run to open up the second frame, with WNE not hitting a shot for the first five minutes. The Golden Bears went on their largest run of the half, scoring just five unanswered points before the Scots would take back control behind Szilagyi and Demers who seemed almost unstoppable.
  • A dunk from freshman David Massillon brought the crowd and the Gordon bench to their feet to lead 86-55 with just over six minutes left to play in regulation. Gordon's reserves continued to light up the scoreboard in the closing minutes almost eclipsing triple-digits for the third time this season.
Beyond The Box Score:
  • Eric Demers and Garrisson Duvivier were presented with their 1,000-point ball this evening in a pre-game ceremony. Both earned a spot in Gordon's record books after surpassing the 1,000-point threshold last season.
  • Noah Szilagyi's 20 points is a new career-high for the senior.
  • Said Head Coach Tod Murphy: "We played an outstanding first ten minutes, followed by a lackluster next ten minutes, but the second half was the best half we have played all season. WNE is a good team, and we outscored them by 26 points in the second half. That was an outstanding effort on both ends of the court by every player that played tonight."
