Traveling to Framingham, Massachusetts for the penultimate game of 2018, Gordon Men's Basketball defeated the Rams of Framingham State University this evening, 86-70, to extend its win streak to nine straight and improve to 10-1 overall on the season. The Rams fall to 1-9 with the loss.
The Scots saw solid production from
Garrisson Duvivier who recorded another double-double with 20 points and 14 boards,
Eric Demers with 18 points, and
Jake Haar with 12 points.
Leading the charge for the Rams was Manny Payton (Sr./Fitchburg, Mass.) who had a strong second half to record 17 points. Khaneil Bruce (Sr./Cambridge, Mass.) was the only other scorer in double digits for FSU with 14, while Cameren McCloud-Thomas (So./Springfield, Mass.) netted seven points and grabbed five boards.
How It Happened
- The Scots went out to an early 8-0 run to open up the game before Bruce hit back-to-back threes from the same spot to bring the Rams back to within reach.
- Avelino Damoura hit a three to give the Scots a 21-14 cushion, but Payton netted a three of his own to bring his team within one at 21-20 with eight minutes left in the half.
- That would be the closest the Rams would get as both teams traded baskets for the rest of the half with Gordon taking the slim edge on a Josh Crutchfield layup for the 39-34 lead going into the half. Duvivier was a constant force throughout the frame, ending up just one shy of a double-double at the break with nine points and as many boards.
- The Rams closed the gap to one, 48-47, just under six minutes into the second half on a steal and dunk in transition from Bruce, but Gordon mounted a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 63-49 lead. The Scots extended the lead to as many as 19 down the stretch before securing the 86-70 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
- Garrisson Duviver notched his ninth double-double of the year.
- The Scots look to keep the ball rolling with their biggest win streak since the 2009-2010 season where they won 13 in a row en route to a 24-5 season.
- Said Head Coach Tod Murphy: "We are always pleased to get the victory, but our rebounding was not good tonight. Framingham State is a scrappy team that battled for 40 minutes. Every time I thought we were going to blow them out, they would fight their way back into the game. All in all it's good to go into the Christmas break with a win. I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and let's make sure to keep Christ in Christmas."
