Gordon Men's Basketball closed out the year hosting Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference action today at the Bennett Center, notching their 10th straight with an 83-73 defeat of the visiting Lions. The Scots improve to 11-1 overall on the year, while ENC drops to 3-7.
For the home team,
Garrisson Duvivier and
Eric Demers matched points scoring 21 apiece, while
Noah Szilagyi added 12 points and half as many boards and
Parker Omslaer put up 10 points and seven rebounds en route to the victory.
The Lions' Garrett Crandell (Jr./Bristol, Tenn.) led all scorers with 26 points followed by Josh Rice (Jr./Hanson, Mass.) with 11, while Levi Grady-White (Fr./Springfield, Mass.) added nine points and four boards for the visitors.
Both teams are on the road for their next contests on January 3 with the Scots traveling to the University of New England for a 7:30 p.m. start and the Lions heading to Northern Vermont-Lyndon for a 3 p.m.
How It Happened:
- The Lions hit their first three shots of the game, jumping out to a 7-3 advantage early and holding the edge for the majority of the first half spreading the ball out evenly throughout.
- D'Eric Marlowe (Fr./North Las Vegas, Nev.) came in with 12 minutes remaining in the first frame and couldn't miss, hitting three straight jumpers for ENC to extend the lead to 24-17.
- With five minutes remaining until the half, Gordon bounced back going on a 12-point run to lead 34-27 before the Lions crawled back into contention after a Crandell three and a clutch tip-in from Ricky Shearman (Jr./Acworth, Ga.) to close out the first half trailing by two.
- Demers opened up the second half with an "and one" from behind the arc to swing the momentum Gordon's way once again. The Scots kept that energy thanks to solid shots from Duvivier as well as back-to-back three's from Avelino Damoura to build a 12-point cushion with seven minutes to go in regulation.
- ENC tried to mount a comeback with Crandell draining a three to cut the deficit to seven with just 42 ticks on the clock, but Gordon hit its next six foul shots to squash any hope for the visitors en route to the 83-73 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
- Garrisson Duviver booked a season-high six steals contributing to a team season-high of 14 total.
- This afternoon's matchup marked the 134th time the two teams have matched up against each other.
- Said Head Coach Tod Murphy: "This was a good win for our team. ENC is a very well coached team that can really shoot the ball. Having a two week break in the season makes that first game back very unpredictable, but I was very pleased with our overall effort today. It's good to brush some of the rust off before opening conference on Thursday. Now the real season begins."
