SALEM, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Salem State in its season opener at the Central Campus Baseball Field and struck out six batters in its 4-2 loss. The game was scheduled for nine innings, but was called in the eighth inning due to darkness.
The Fighting Scots (0-1) scored both of their runs in the top of the third inning as
Addison Tarr doubled to right field to drive in
Joseph Mack and Tarr later scored off a single by
Matt Paulsen. The Vikings (1-0) scored three runs in the bottom of the third to make it 3-2. They added another run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-2. Gordon left four runners on base after the fourth inning and went three up and three down in the top of the eighth before the game was called.
Mack batted 2-for-3 with one run scored. Tarr went 1-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and one run. Paulsen and
Erik Gauer both batted 1-for-3.
Derek Hudson started the game and pitched 4.0 innings, struck out five batters, and allowed three total runs with two being earned.
Garrett Poole pitched 3.0 innings, struck out one batter, and allowed one run.
The Fighting Scots next travel to Florida for spring break to play in the RussMatt Florida Invitational. They will play ten games in Florida, starting with a doubleheader against SUNY Fredonia March 9 at 9:30 a.m.
