Scots Split Doubleheader with Hawks

LEESBURG, Fla. — Gordon played Becker in a doubleheader at the RussMatt Invitational at Pat Thomas Stadium and split the doubleheader with Becker taking the first game 8-7 and Gordon winning the second game 9-2.

In the first game, the Fighting Scots (1-4) scored five runs in the top of the first inning. Addison Tarr scored off of an error by the second baseman and Travis Benoit hit a grand slam to put Gordon up 5-0. The Hawks (3-2) scored a run in the bottom of first to make it a 5-1 game. Erik Gauer hit an RBI single to drive in Daniel Quint in the top of the second. Becker scored three runs in the bottom of the second as Kevin Perez was walked with the bases loaded and Willis Pollard hit a two-RBI double to cut the lead to two runs. Quint scored again in the top of the fourth off a wild pitch to make it 7-4. The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 7-7. Perez hit an RBI single in the bottom of seventh to give Becker an 8-7 lead going into the top of the seventh. Christian Hodge walked to lead off the inning. He was caught stealing and then Benoit flew out to left field. With two outs, John Lagerfeldt lined out to third base to seal the win for Becker.

Joseph Mack went 2-for-3 with a double. Quint batted 1-for-2 with two runs and a triple. Gauer went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

Matt Moffat started the game and struck out four batters in 3.1 innings.

In game two, Gordon struck first with three runs in the bottom of the first. They added one run in both the fourth and fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Hawks scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to three runs. Gauer hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2. The Fighting Scots added three more runs in the fifth inning and held Becker to two hits in the last two innings to clinch the win.

Tarr batted 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Hodge went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Gauer and Mack both batted 2-for-3.

Joe Pedulla picked up the win in his first career start as he pitched 6.1 innings and struck out nine batters.

Gordon next plays RPI tomorrow March 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
