NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Gordon traveled to take on Smith in non-conference action at Smith Turf Field and attempted 18 shots in its 18-9 loss.
The Pioneers (2-0) got on the board first with a goal by Julia Hamilton in the first 30 seconds of the game. They added four more goals in the next four minutes to make it 5-0 game.
Lena Larson scored for the Fighting Scots (2-3) off a pass from
Katelyn Dyer in the sixth minute to cut the lead to four goals. They scored three straight goals, including two by
Olivia McCarrick, to bring the lead down to one. Smith responded by scoring five straight goals to build a 10-4 lead. McCarrick and Dyer both scored in the next two minutes to make it a 10-6 game. The Pioneers scored three goals in the last five minutes of the half to take a 13-6 lead into halftime.
Paige Thompson scored a goal in the 35
th minute to put Gordon on the board in the second half. Smith scored four straight goals to build the lead up to ten goals. They then held the Fighting Scots to only one shot in a ten-minute span before Larson scored off a pass from
Molly Guthrie with 3:55 left. She added another goal with 46 seconds left to make it a 17-9 game before Caroline Myran scored with 16 seconds left to close out the game.
Larson finished with a career-high three goals. McCarrick scored three goals, handed out one assist, and led the team with four ground balls and five caused turnovers. Dyer scored two goals, dished out one assist, and recorded four draw controls.
Rebecca Resnick recorded a career-high 12 saves and faced 33 shots.
Gordon next travels down to Florida to play two games. They will play Fitchburg State March 13 at 10 a.m. and Kean March 15 at 9 a.m. in Port Charlotte, Fla.Â
