Scots Split Doubleheader With Storm

AUBURNDALE, Fla. — Gordon finished up its Florida trip with a doubleheader against Crown at Lake Myrtle Park and split the doubleheader with a 7-0 win and a 6-4 loss.

In the first game, the Fighting Scots (4-7) got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single by Daniel Quint and Erik Gauer grounded out to drive in Quint to give them a 2-0 lead. They added another run in the bottom of the third to make it 4-0. In the fifth, Quint hit another RBI single to score Matt Moffatt and Hodge hit an RBI single to drive in Quint to make it 5-0. They topped off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Chris Leavitt to drive in John Lagerfeldt and Quint hit another RBI single to score Moffatt. The Fighting Scots held the Storm (2-7) to three hits and forced them to leave four runners on base.

Quint batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Lagerfeldt went 2-for-3 with one run.

Joe Pedulla pitched a complete game and struck out seven batters.

In the second game, Leavitt scored off a wild pitch in the top of the first to put Gordon up 1-0. Crown scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Fighting Scots tied the game in the top of the third with an RBI single by Gauer and a two-RBI single by Christian Hodge. The Storm took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third with an RBI single by Gideon Dunn that drove in Kress Medina. They added another run in the bottom of the fifth off an error by the pitcher. Gordon recorded one hit and left two runners on base in the last two innings to seal the win for Crown.

Leavitt batted 2-for-4 with two runs. Quint went 2-for-4 with one run. Hodge batted 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Fighting Scots return to Massachusetts to host Bridgewater State in its home opener March 20 at 3:30 p.m.
