Scots Run Down Bison in CCC Opener

WENHAM, Mass. — Gordon hosted Nichols in its Commonwealth Coast Conference home opener at the Brigham Athletic Complex and forced 30 turnovers in its 16-11 win.

The Fighting Scots (3-5, 1-0 CCC) got on the board in the third minute with an unassisted goal by Hannah Bourk. Olivia McCarrick scored off a pass from Cassidy Allen 15 seconds later to put them up 2-0. Danielle Kozloski scored in the seventh minute for the Bison (1-2, 0-1 CCC) to make it a 2-1 game. Katelyn Dyer scored in the ninth minute to put Gordon up 3-1. Nichols took a one-goal lead by scoring three straight goals in the next eight minutes. Both teams scored three goals in the last 14:02 to make it a 7-6 Bison lead at halftime.

Dyer and McCarrick both scored in the first four minutes of the second half to make it an 8-7 game. Mellissa Lafleur scored in the 40th minute to tie the game at 8-8. Lena Larson and Dyer each scored in the next three minutes to give the Fighting Scots a two-goal lead. Lafleur scored again in the 44th minute to make it a 11-10 game with 16:10 left. Gordon closed out the game by outscoring Nichols 5-1 and holding the Bison to three shots in the last sixteen minutes of the game.

Dyer finished with career-highs in goals with six and in points with nine. McCarrick tied her career-high with four assists and also scored five goals. Bourk and Greta Moore both scored two goals and dished out one assist.

Kaitlin Ober made five saves and faced 24 shots.

The Fighting Scots next travel to play Salem State in non-conference play March 27 at 7 p.m.
